As health practitioners you have the authority to sign off on various documents and certificates and treating practitioners and experts may be required to provide reports or assessments.
At any time any practitioner may be called upon to provide evidence in medical negligence or other personal injury litigation, a Coronial inquest or in a criminal or Family Law setting.In all cases where you go to print be prepared to give evidence in court. Being properly prepared and cognisant of all the issues is paramount for all witnesses.
This workshop will provide tips and strategies to ensure an understanding of all the requirements for authorising documents and providing reports, your AHPRA code of conduct and the obligations on you by the courts. We will equip you with the requisite knowledge to best represent yourself if required to give evidence in your professional capacity.

About the presenters
Emma Harman is a senior associate specialising in medical malpractice, defence and disciplinary proceedings. She has a particular focus on health law and acting for medical professionals and their insurers. Emma has a Bachelor of Law (Hons) and Bachelor of Economics, as well as a Diploma of Languages (Spanish).
Robert Samut is the principal of the Insurance and Health team at Barry Nilsson Qld. Rob has developed a special interest in medical negligence, being listed in the 2015 to 2018 Doyle’s Guide as one of Queensland’s leading medical negligence lawyers.
