Terms of the competition and prize

The winner of the competition is the university with the highest score at the end of the competition period. The prize is awarded to the medical student society within the university and where there is more than one society the prize is awarded at MIPS' discretion.

The prize is $1,000.

Eligibility and scoring criteria

Only medical student societies for each Australian university are eligible winners
The quiz is made up of 20 questions and points are awarded for correct answers
Participants who are not MIPS members are awarded double points if they subsequently join MIPS
Only university students who belong to an Australian medical student society may take the quiz.
Each university’s medical student society’s score is based on the average score of students who have completed the quiz with a weighting based on the number of students enrolled in the medical course which levels the competition between the larger and smaller universities.
Universities must have at least 50 entries attributable to them to be able to win the prize.

Awarding the prize

The winning society’s sponsorship officer, treasurer, president or other contact will be notified by phone in the first instance and then by email if required. If the winning society cannot be contacted or fail to reply within 20 working days, MIPS will award the prize to the society with the next highest score.

MIPS accepts no responsibility for any variation in the prize value. The prize, or any unused portion of the prize, is not transferable or exchangeable and cannot be taken as cash.

If for any reason this promotion is not capable of running as planned, MIPS reserves the right in its sole discretion, (subject to any written direction given by a relevant Regulatory Authority), to cancel at any time, terminate and/or modify the promotion conditions at any time without notice. Modified promotion conditions will apply to quiz completions received after the time the conditions have been modified.

Use of information

MIPS collects the name and email of students entering the quiz. Students are sent a follow up email to invite them to share the quiz with fellow students and to join MIPS. Student considering joining MIPS should read the Member Handbook combined FSG and PDS.

MIPS CrazySocks4Docs Photo Competition

Terms

Competition closes at 5pm (AEST) on Friday 18 June 2021.

MIPS will judge entries and select the best photo based on originality, quality and artistic merit.

The winning entry will win an event hosted by MIPS worth $500 at their hospital. The prize is non-transferable.

MIPS' decision is final and no further correspondence will be entered into once winner is decided.

Conditions

Any entry not complying with the relevant terms and conditions is invalid.

Entry is open to all doctors in Australian hospitals.

Entries must be original image/s and the entrant must be the copyright owner of any images submitted.

MIPS reserves the right to verify the validity of all entries and reserves the right to disqualify any entrant for tampering with the entry process, including but not limited to making entries in excess of the permitted number, or for otherwise submitting an entry that is not in accordance with these terms and conditions.

By entering the Contest, each entrant agrees to the use of their image/s for any further uses in publicity or promotional purposes, including but not limited to MIPS' website/s and social media pages.

The owner of the winning entry will own all intellectual property rights, including copyright, in any such material. It is a condition of accepting any prize that the winner acknowledges that MIPS acquires the entry for use for its commercial purposes and agrees not to object to any such use on the basis of any moral right.

An entry must not infringe upon the copyright, trademark or any other intellectual property rights of any third person or violate any person's rights of privacy or any other Australian law.

MIPS may undertake any post-production and editing of the image submitted.

An entry must not contain:

any identifiable people even where a recording authorisation has been provided:
any infringing, threatening, false, misleading, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, scandalous, inflammatory, pornographic or profane content;
any material that could constitute or encourage conduct which would be considered a criminal offence, incite violence or racism, or give rise to civil liability or otherwise violate any law either of Australia trademarks or copyrighted material owned (in whole or in part) by third parties;
names, likenesses or other characteristics identifying celebrities or other public figures (living or dead);
any commercial content that promotes any product or service other than MIPS.

The entrant indemnifies MIPS against any claim, legal or otherwise, that may arise out of publication of the image.

If for any reason this Contest is not capable of running as planned, whether caused by computer virus, mobile phone failure, line drop out, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other cause beyond the control of MIPS which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness or integrity of the Contest, MIPS reserves the right in its sole discretion, (subject to any written direction given by a relevant Regulatory Authority), to cancel, terminate, modify the Contest. MIPS will disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process.

Entries are deemed to be received at the time of receipt into MIPS' database. MIPS is not responsible for receipt of incorrect, inaccurate or incomplete information caused by an entrant or occurring during transmission. MIPS is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone, telephone or computer network, or lines, servers, or telephone or internet providers, traffic congestion on any phone or computer network, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to participants or any other person's handset or computer related to or resulting from participation or sending or receiving of any communication or of any materials in this Contest. inaccurate or incomplete information caused by an entrant or occurring during transmission. Information on how to enter and prizes form part of these terms and conditions. By entering, participants agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. 

The Promoter of the competition is Medical Indemnity Protection Society (MIPS) (ABN 64 007 067 281) Level 37, 55 Collins Street, Melbourne, VIC, 3000.

The competition period commences 12.01am Monday 17 March 2025 until 11:59 pm Sunday 4 May 2025 (the competition period).

Who can enter

To enter, you must:

be over 18 years of age; and
be an Ahpra registered medical practitioner (in training) who graduated from medical school in 2020, 2021, 2022 or 2023 and;
reside and practice within Australia; and;
not be an existing member of MIPS; and
consent to MIPS collecting and using your information for marketing purposes in accordance with their Privacy Policy and to contact you via phone or email.

Directors, management and employees of the Promoter and its related bodies corporate, and immediate family members of each of these persons are ineligible to enter.

How to enter

You must visit our website at www.mips.com.au and apply for MIPS membership during the competition period.

Entry is limited to one per prospective member.

MIPS reserves the right to verify the validity of all entries and reserves the right to disqualify any entrant for tampering with the entry process, including but not limited to, making multiple entries, or for otherwise submitting an entry that does not comply with these terms and conditions.

Prizes

Three (3) prizes that consist of two (2) $2,500 Flight Centre Gift Card for a combined total of $5,000 per prize for a total prize pool of $15,000. Flight Centre Gift Cards have been provided by Australian OpCo Pty Ltd (ABN 20 003 279 534) trading as Corporate Traveller. All Rights Reserved.

Lost, stolen, damaged or expired prizes are not replaced nor refunded.

If for any reason any prize is not available, it will be substituted with a prize of equal or greater value at the Promoter’s discretion.

Selection of winners

This is a game of chance and winners will be selected via random draw, subject to entries meeting the entry criteria.

The draw will take place at Medical Indemnity Protection Society, Level 37, 55 Collins Street, Melbourne, VIC, 3000, on Wednesday 7 May 2025 at 11:00am.

Notification of winners

The winners will be notified by telephone and/or in writing via email within two (2) business days of the draw.

MIPS reserves the right to request verification of identity, residential address of winners and any other information relevant to the entry. Any requirements regarding verification will be at the Promoters discretion.

Winners details (last name, first initial and postcode) will be published within 30 days of the major prize draw and/or unclaimed prize draw on mips.com.au for a period of 28 days after the draw.

Unclaimed prizes

If necessary, a second chance draw will be held at least three (3) months after the initial draw on Wednesday 6 August 2025 at 11:00am at MIPS, Level 37, 55 Collins Street, Melbourne, VIC, 3000, to distribute any unclaimed prize. Winners will be notified by telephone and/or in writing via email within two (2) days of the draw.

Prizes are not variable nor transferable, and they are not redeemable for cash. The Promoter’s decisions will be final and binding; no correspondence will be entered into. The Promoter accepts no responsibility for late, lost, misdirected entries nor other communications.

Publicity

Entrants consent to the use of their image and name for promotional activities by the Promoter and its related bodies corporate and acknowledge that it is a condition of taking the Prize that all winners agree to promotional activities, including the use of their names and images without additional compensation.

General

MIPS is not liable for any loss, damage or injury suffered (even if caused by negligence) as a result of accepting and/or using a prize, except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law.
